Don’t Put Off Air Conditioner Repair

Do you really need to prioritize air conditioner repair right now, when the leaves are falling and the kids are back in school? Yes, because your HVAC system is a machine, just like your body. How would you fare if you put off having a required surgery, or if you knew that something was wrong but didn’t bother seeing your doctor for several months?

Just because you won’t actively be using your air conditioner for a few months doesn’t mean you have time on your side. In some cases, the longer you wait, the worse the diagnosis will be.

It’s really tempting to put off spring duties so you can focus on autumn and winter tasks. However, right now is the perfect time for a full HVAC inspection. Making sure your winter heating source is in tip-top shape is critical. You don’t want to find out in the middle of a January blizzard that your heating system is failing (or could be performing better). Take care of all your HVAC maintenance in one fell swoop, and make sure that if your A/C needs repairs, it’s taken care of, pronto.

Common Problems Lead to Not-So-Common Disasters

A few common air conditioner repairs are easy fixes (assuming you take care of them early). If the wires are frayed or worn, it can lead to poor air flow, or no flow at all. Many times, wiring is fast, affordable and easy for a qualified technician to repair. However, it can be a fire hazard if it’s left for too long — especially if you forget and then try to force your air conditioner to deliver next spring.

Another common problem is a refrigerant leak. A minor leak is usually no biggie to repair, but refrigerant isn’t exactly the healthiest liquid to be exposed to. It can be dangerous, especially if the leak is accessible to kids or pets. Plus, there’s no telling how big the leak will become or if it will destroy any of the unit’s elements. It’s best to get any leaks fixed as soon as possible.

Something to Vent About

Addressing aspects of your HVAC system separately instead of as one unit can be a costly and time-consuming mistake. It’s much easier to have the entire HVAC system serviced at once. However, if you know for certain your air conditioner needs repair, don’t put it off until your next scheduled inspection. Call a reputable technician immediately, and consider having a full HVAC inspection during that service call. It’s one more item you can check off your to-do list.
